CHURCH OF THE HOLY APOSTLES

Generosity is one way we live out our faith, and it can extend beyond our lifetime. Planned giving offers an opportunity to support the mission and ministry of Church of the Holy Apostles for generations to come.
Whether through a gift in your will, a beneficiary designation, or another planned gift, you can help ensure that COTHA continues to connect people to Christ through Love in Action.
Specialized Giving During Your Lifetime
Gifts of Appreciated Assets:
Giving appreciated stocks or other investments directly to COTHA may allow you to support the church while potentially avoiding capital gains tax on the donated assets. Depending on your circumstances, the gift may also qualify for a charitable income tax deduction. Please contact the church office before transferring securities so we can help coordinate the gift.
Donor-Advised Funds:
A donor-advised fund allows you to contribute to a charitable fund and recommend grants to organizations such as COTHA over time. If you already have a donor-advised fund, you can recommend a grant to support our worship, formation, outreach, and other ministries. Donor-advised funds can also be incorporated into a broader charitable giving plan.
Qualified Charitable Distributions:
If you are age 70½ or older, you may be eligible to make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to COTHA. When the requirements are met, the distribution can be excluded from taxable income and may count toward your required minimum distribution. Your IRA administrator can help you arrange a direct transfer to the church.
Charitable Remainder Trusts:
For those with more complex financial or estate planning goals, a charitable remainder trust may support COTHA while providing income to you or another beneficiary for a set period. At the end of that period, the remaining trust assets pass to the charitable organizations you have designated. These arrangements require careful legal and financial planning and may be appropriate for some larger gifts.
Leaving a Legacy
Gifts in your will or trust:
Remembering COTHA in your will or living trust is a meaningful way to leave a legacy of faith. You can designate a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or what remains after providing for loved ones. Your gift helps ensure that COTHA's ministry of Love in Action continues for future generations.
Retirement Accounts and Life Insurance:
You can name Church of the Holy Apostles as a beneficiary of all or part of an IRA, 401(k), other retirement account, or life insurance policy. This can be a straightforward way to make a future gift while keeping access to your assets during your lifetime. In many cases, you can update a beneficiary designation directly through your account or policy provider.
