What is a Small Group?
It's a small group of people who meet once a week to study the Bible, pray, talk, hang out, encourage, be real and do life!  We're not supposed to live life alone. God wants us to experience life with Him and other people!

In Small Groups, You...
  • Make new friends, build relationships, and encourage each other.
  • Explore the Bible and topics that impact all of us.
  • Have lots of opportunities in Local Outreach and on our Serving Teams.
Small Group Ministry FAQ’s
What is a small group?
Jesus wants a personal relationship with you that springboards into a life lived with others who are pursuing the same thing. Small groups are the ideal place for that. In a Small Group, 8 to 12 people meet regularly for a year or more to pursue spiritual growth and healthy relationships. Small Groups meet for prayer, discussion, sharing, Bible study, and serving together. They’re for adults of all ages, stages of life, and spiritual maturity. In short, small groups encourage all members and guest to connect, grow, and go!

Why does COTHA do Small Groups?
We believe that significant life change best takes place in the context of intentional relationships. Small Groups are the places where real life and real issues are discussed. This is the environment to celebrate the successes and good times of life, as well as comfort one another in the tough and disappointing times. It’s a place to be encouraged, equipped, and challenged to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ.

How do I join a group?
The primary way we connect people into Small Groups is through GroupLink. We hold two GroupLink events per year for members and guest. We promote GroupLink during our Sunday services. Throughout the year, cards are available at our Welcome Center for people to fill out when they ask about joining a group. Those who complete cards are contacted by a staff member or volunteer to answer any questions they may have about the GroupLink process.

What is GroupLink?
GroupLink is a two-hour event where people meet and connect with others in their area of town and stage of life with the purpose of starting a Small Group.

When and where do Small Groups meet?
Small Groups meet weekly in someone’s home or on campus. Group members make this decision as a group at the first meeting. We try to connect people by area of town because proximity allows for better connection. We find it’s just easier for people to connect without a 20-minute drive separating them.

How often do Small Groups meet?
Most groups meet 2-4 times per month, but our groups are more than just a program or a Bible study. We really want our groups to pursue life together by connecting outside of the scheduled meetings. Significant and authentic relationships help us to be more like Christ!

What kinds of small groups are available?
COTHA classifies all small groups through the following broad affinity categories:
  • Couples
  • Mixed Couples and Singles
  • Women’s
  • Men’s
These groups offer natural connecting points through which members come together and form real relationships. Within these affinity categories there are specific groups that are based upon age and stage of life.

Are small groups biblical?
The book of Acts is very clear about how God intends for His people to grow and have their needs met in the church. We will never be able to hire enough professional pastors to meet all the individual needs in our church family. God never intended for it to be that way! “They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Every day they continued to meet together… they broke bread in their homes and ate together… and the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42, 44, 46-47

Is childcare available during the small group meeting times?
On-campus groups do offer childcare options. Off campus groups make their own arrangements for childcare based on the group’s priorities.
