I meet weekly with a group of committed believers in my home. Our current study is The Treasure Principle by Randy Alcorn. I have found the book and group discussions to be very enlightening and have discovered a new meaning for generosity.
When the “tithe sermon” is preached members often shut their ears because the message seems to be the church needs money. Fortunately at our church, the message has not been a need for money but giving is an obedient act of worship. The Creator of the Universe has no need of our money. He asks us to give a tithe as a show of our commitment to Him. God even allows us to test Him with our offering. I am the Lord All-Powerful, and I challenge you to put me to the test. Bring the entire ten percent into the storehouse, so there will be food in my house. Then I will open the windows of heaven and flood you with blessing after blessing. Malachi 3:10 CEV By being obedient to God we are blessed.
The book talks about more than giving our tithe; it talks about the stewardship of our lives. I thought once I gave my tithe I could check off the box and be done. God wants us to be wise with the other 90%!
The book is a quick read but the impact of the material is life changing. It challenges us to examine where we put our treasure. Earth is not our home; we need to store our treasures in heaven.
