Sunday Service, Uganda Style

The team went to church service this morning.  It struck me as something rather unusual that as guests we were expected to be a part of the service, not just a spectator.  At home, guests are more of spectators than participants, where they are allowed to sit back and watch "the show" for about an hour or so, but that was far from the case in Uganda.  Several of the team members taught sunday school, sang, played guitar, and even preached in front of the entire congregation.  The crazy part of all, this all took place over a time period of multiple hours that went by fast.  There as no rush, no timed programmatic elements, no cue sheet, etc., only a day set aside to worship God.  We were there for one reason, and one reason alone no matter how long it took.  Ironically, this lifted my usual Sunday morning stress of making sure everything ran smoothly and on time at COTHA which freed me to see God move through His people.  Oh but wait, there's more.  We were even told to stay and eat lunch together with the rest of the congregation.  I can't remember the last time we as a church body fellowshipped together like that.  Sure we do it in smaller entities, but as a whole? We immediately became part of not only their local church, but literally part of their family as well this morning.
God has placed each one of our team members perfectly in place to be here in Uganda and His timing is perfect in that He has given us a few days of "getting to know each other" before we head out tomorrow into the field to do His work.  And there was no better way of preparing us than to be part of a loving and open church family this morning.  It brought us together as a team!
It's now up to us to take the challege that he has laid out before us and spread His word to the people of Uganda.  How are we going to do this?  The plan is to go into a mountain village bringing medicine, mosquito nets, and praying for the people house to house to house.  A potentially difficult task to do alone, but with your prayers and God's help, we will overcome! Please continue to pray for us as we venture out into the villages tomorrow.
