Christmas is so much more than the world would have us believe. It is a cataclysmic event that happened almost 2000 years ago. An event that was so unlikely only a handful of shepherds and a couple of wise men from the east even noticed. And yet the birth of Jesus was the ultimate game changer. His entry into this world was the fulfillment of prophecy and the loudest message ever delivered from God to all of creation. As the Bible tells us "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, to the end, that all who believes in Him will have everlasting life."
In the midst of all your preparations, no matter if they are a hassle or just fun, don't lose sight of what we are celebrating. It actually goes beyond a celebration of an historical event, though it is indeed history. It goes to the reality that Jesus lives and reigns and calls all of His people to share the joy and hope with a world that only knows despair and fear.
We have one more Sunday in Advent before we pull out the stops at COTHA on December 24 (5:00 and 10:30 pm). Consider who you might invite as we sing with the heavenly choir "Glory to God in the highest!"
