About four years ago I found myself unemployed due to a corporate merger. Like many baby boomers, I felt the job and income would last forever, but found myself unprepared for retirement and could not find a job at 62 years of age.
This situation resulted in us losing everything, our home, our vacation home, our cars, our savings (meager as it was) not to mention my spirit and pride.
After moving to Houston to be close to grandkids and family, I was in a state of depression and feelings of worthlessness. Vicky, one Saturday, informed me were were going to church on Sunday. We attended our first service on that Sunday a little over three years ago. Since this decision to attend COTHA...my life hasn't been the same since.
After several months attending COTHA, we became active in various church activities including an ALPHA class. This class led to a spiritual gifts analysis. Both Vicky and I felt God was calling us to serve others.
Not knowing where we were meant to serve, we tried many things including missions to Mexico, Guatemala and Uganda. After these experiences we found that to serve God, he does not care where just that we serve.
Our most recent service is to coordinate the COTHA Spaghetti Dinners. I felt a calling for this because of who COTHA is hoping can be served by offering a free meal once a week with unconditional love and conversation to all who come. We pray that we can serve the homeless, families that could use a safe environment to feed themselves and their children, families that are working hard but could use a little help as well as our own congregation.
This ministry is extremely important to Vicky and I as well as COTHA. I would like to invite you to experience the fellowship on December 18 and then again, beginning on January 8, each and every Wednesday. I would also like for you to pray for this ministry - that it expands and fills a void here in the Katy area.
God Bless - Bob
