I received the weekly information email from my son’s football coach. He informed parents that this week the players were learning to manage their STUFF. He asks, “Are you in charge of your STUFF or is your STUFF in charge of you?” He wants the players to prioritize their stuff in the following order - Faith, Family, Academics, Football then other stuff. His logic was quite convincing...
"If our players manage their STUFF day to day while following the “PROCESS” we will find our players are much better prepared to WIN as their minds will be clear when the big moments come. With a clear mindset in the biggest of moments, players are ready to execute their process without anxiety. The result will be making those big plays in the big moments of the game (or LIFE)."
While I am not looking to personally make the big play in the game, I often feel my STUFF is in control. Putting God first every day is not always easy. I sleep through the alarm and miss my devotional time. I decide to put off praying till I am commuting, but I get distracted and forget. I promise to sit with my study during lunch, but I end up working through lunch. I go home then it’s making dinner for family and other household chores. I lay down at night and feel guilty because the whole day has passed without my quiet time! I have too much stuff!
The most important relationship I have is with my Savior. I must choose that priority and manage the other stuff later. Thanks Coach for the reminder!
