I just returned from a weekend trip to Austin to visit with my younger sister who just had a baby. It was so wonderful to see her and her three kids. It has been awhile since we have seen them. Holding a baby brings me so much joy. Babies just smell so good and I find it very relaxing. My oldest daughter actually called me the “baby hog” because I held him for so long and I only let her hold him for a little bit. I miss having a baby around the house. It was the most favorite time of motherhood for me.
I also visited my brother while I was in Austin. He has 4 boys, one of which is 4 months old. Oh my goodness he is so adorable. Again, I was the “baby hog.” I just can’t help myself. Although I did let Victoria hold him for a bit longer. My brother’s house was crazy but fun. With 3 other boys in the house all under the age of nine and then my 3 kiddos, it was a zoo over there. It was non-stop running, jumping, laughing, and screaming. It was a great time.
It was a wonderful weekend filled with lots of laughs and catching up. I miss having my family around me especially in the hard times. As I was driving home I felt so blessed that I got to spend the weekend with my family. It shouldn’t take someone having a baby to slow down and enjoy our family. So often it does take a big event happening before we take time out of our busy schedules. I guess that is why God puts these times in our lives.
Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.
