We started the day with a devotion about praise and each of us shared our own praise experiences for the week. One was that a woman whose child had been sick and received prayer from one of our teams, came back the next day to thank them because her child had been healed. Yeah God!!!
We left the hotel at 9:30 to head to Sipi Falls to climb Mount Elgon. The area countryside was unbelievably beautiful, the ride relaxing and the breeze through the windows felt so good. We had a guide lead us on our hike up the mountain on a slippery, steep path until we reached the top of the falls. The climb served as a reminder of how truly out-of- shape I am, but, it was well worth it as the view was absolutely amazing. After our descent, we headed for the Lulwanda Children’s Home. The road was the worst we’ve traveled on so far this week…Mama Aidah said that it’s the same road we will be traveling on to reach our next mission site and claimed she was just getting us accustomed to it
We were served lunch at the orphanage – including guacamole, which surprised us– followed by a tour of the living areas. The orphanage currently houses 109 children – 44 boys and 65 girls. A few years ago they were able to build a separate dormitory for the older girls and are hoping to raise the funds to build separate housing for the teenage boys as well. They children put on a show for us with singing, dancing, and a short skit. COTHA gang…we’re hoping to have them on the big screen for you when we return. They are quite talented and we had a great time. Also, a brief commercial break, if you don’t mind….for those interested, you can go to Grace Foundation International and sponsor one of the children for a very nominal monthly fee.
On the way back to our hotel, we stopped at a local grocery store in Mbale (which Gana refers to as “The Cadbury Store” because surprise, surprise, they sell Cadbury chocolate) where we stocked up on some goodies and then headed back to our home away from home. Tomorrow morning we will be going to Morris & Aidah’s church. God Bless.
