Vic Mitchell and the imPossible Mission

Vic is the one responsible for me being at COTHA. Actually, he had very little to do with the actual call, but he is the person who led me to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Vic went away to a youth conference many, many years ago and came back totally ablaze with passion for Jesus. I thought it odd at the time, but very compelling. After running from him for an entire summer, I sat down on the living room floor of another friend, Craig Hutchinson, and accepted Jesus into my life as Lord and Savior. I hadn't really planned on doing that, but there was something about the way they shared their faith, the way they honestly explored with me what a difference Jesus had made in their life, I felt I had to see if Jesus was really real.
Well He is, praise God! I was saved that night and my life has never been the same. I am eternally grateful for Vic and Craig and their desire to be faithful in sharing their story. Their vulnerability and honesty continues to bless me all these years later.
I talked to Vic on the phone today. I'm not sure why I called him, I just felt like I should. Vic is a pastor in the Wesleyan Church and is planting a new church in Oklahoma. I asked him to put me on the mailing list so I could pray for him. He reminded me that he always prays for me as well. I knew that. I've always known that.
I am so thankful for people like Vic in my life that continue to challenge, support and love me. I don't feel like I deserve such friendship but that feels a lot like Grace. We never deserve it, but it is always freely given.
This Sunday we launch into a new series, starting with our official "Kick-off" for the school year. The theme of both is "Mission imPOSSIBLE." It is possible to meet our mission when we continue to love one another and keep pushing ahead. I have been taught that by my good friend Vic. And I know we can do this, because Jesus is the head of the Church and He will empower us, through our love for one another, to achieve impossible things!
Invite a friend this weekend and I'll see you Sunday!
