When we learned of the event, it was several hours after his admittance to the hospital. I became quite concerned when, after being connected to the nurse's station, I learned that he was in ICU. Of course that was quite scary.
John sounded groggy and still in pain. It was obvious that we needed to go and be by his side. The first flight out of Houston was early Monday morning and so we boarded the plain not really knowing what we would face.
John was out of the hospital when we arrived and so we were able to take him to our (unsold) house and be a family supporting one another all week. As I mentioned in church yesterday, all those prayers that we would sell the house over the last eight months were thankfully answered by God as "wait!" I now know why. Our God is a sovereign God and certainly knows what He is doing. If we had sold our house earlier, then we wouldn't have been able to be together in what was both a comfortable and soothing environment. As our oldest son joined us, we supported John through this, and enjoyed the company of one another for several days.
I'm now ready to sell the house and praying about it again! Besides being with John, it was interesting to be back in Lawrence. But I was fascinated that my transition from Kansas to Texas feels complete as we taxied at Bush Intercontinental Airport, I knew that my home was here in Texas. We're apart from our kids, but we all know that we are deeply connected to one another and if needed, we can be together in no time at all. But God has called me here, there is no doubt, and we continue to see Him work in our lives, and in the lives of those at COTHA in real and powerful ways.
I will sell my house and I don't need snake oil to do it. God is all I need! God is at work in my life in ways that consistently surprise and delight me. I am blessed to be at COTHA (and Julie feels the same way) and look forward to what God is up to in our midst! I so appreciate all the prayers that were sent heavenward during this challenge and the devil meant it for bad, but God used this experience to grow me and my family and to reinforce my connection to my family at Church of the Holy Apostles in Katy, Texas!!
